Available Grades Metcar® Materials for Dryer Applications

Metallized Carbon grades 1515 Copper and 2500 are the most used and best known carbon graphite dryer bearing materials in the board dryer industry. Considered the "Work Horses" in our family of grades, these materials solve most of the day to day problems encountered in board dryer environments.

  • METCAR 1515 Copper is best known for its ability to operate dry without lubrication under extremely heavy loads at temperatures to 750° F. Copper impregnation gives grade 1515 the toughness necessary to withstand the high loads and abrasive conditions found in these dryers. Operating under loads of 50 psi at 30 R.P.M., it is not uncommon for grade 1515 bearings to last 8 or more years.

  • METCAR Grade 2500 Resistox® has developed a very loyal following in the board dryer industry. Designed to provide good oxidation resistance in applications up to 1,000°F, these bearings have gained a high level of acceptance for use in the "hot zones" of board dryers, especially in the hot air nozzle section. Treated with an oxidation inhibitor to protect the graphite, these bearings provide long wear at elevated temperatures. Grade 2500 should be used where temperatures run above 750°F to 1,000°F.
Efforts by board dryer manufacturers to increase production have lead many dryer operators to raise temperatures and increase line speeds. In these cases, the maximum operating conditions for grade 2500 may be exceeded. Metallized Carbon has developed a new family of materials to address these applications. Metcar's Resistox® materials have been engineered specifically for higher temperatures. With grades designed to operate continuously at temperatures to 1,100°F, these grades are quickly becoming favored in plants that operate at elevated temperatures, especially those heating with co-generation units.

  • METCAR Grade 9800 Resistox® is the next step in high temperature oxidation resistant materials. This material, containing superior oxidation inhibitors, operates successfully at 1000°F for extended periods without excessive deterioration due to oxidation attack.

  • METCAR Grade 9200 Resistox® has all of the advantages of grade 9800 plus the addition of a surface coating of oxidation resistant materials. This outer coating helps protect the exposed areas of the graphite bearing from oxidation. Bearings manufactured in grade 9200 offer very good oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures without showing significant signs of deterioration from oxidation. Grade 9200 Resistox® has shown 5 times the service life over graphite bearings through tests conducted in gypsum dryers heated by co-generation units at 1,100°F.
